Ben + Joyce - married in Downtown Oakland!

So our love for each other started one evening in May, I saw you from across the room. You had a fuji camera round your neck and this gorgeous girl with you who could not stop laughing and smiling. I was photographing one of her best friend’s wedding and you were a fun creative designer. I do not know if it was you who saw me or me you first, but that evening we chatted a ton. Your now wife and I continued to follow each others antics for the next couple years on social media and have been able to see each other grow and become the people we are all today. Today though is so much more important, as you two are married. I honestly do not know who I am really writing this love letter to. I kid, promise, it is to both of you. To you Joyce, I do not have to tell you that you are unabashedly yourself. It is this rare bliss to see in a human being, an elation that bubbles forth, overpowering sadness with your infectious love. You have left a path of happy throughout your life to this point, and I sit here too, overcome. Wishing that I knew how to be this type of person you are, I write this, knowing I have so much to let go of to become someone who can love and laugh with so much freedom. Ben you love and support a very powerful and strong woman, whom loves and supports you beyond your own imagination.

My wonderful reader, you are about to embark on a journey of love through Ben and Joyce’s eyes and hearts. It is love like this that reminds me why we photograph weddings. A love that burns brighter than anyone else in the room, one you can see burning in front of you hours after they have left. It is not about passionate love, but one of excitement through infectious laughter that leaves this almost longing impression for more. One that puts life as a priority in each new day, allowing each other to take in the goodness of the passing moments. I am going to let these photos speak for themselves, but all I see is a relationship built on the strengths of each other. One that is strongly supported by their closest friends and family. Thank you Ben and Joyce for trusting Lisa and I to help you tell your love story. I do not know how to thank you enough for showing us your love.

It takes a lot of courage to walk up to a girl in the gym, especially the manager and ask for her number. Those things that give us the biggest fears in our lives tend to provide some of the biggest reward. That girl just so happened to be the love of Ben’s life, even though he didn’t know it that first moment. These two dreamed together of a wedding with only their four extremely close friends and their immediate families in the place that Alexa grew up going to since she was little. Hearing the stories of how special Packer Lake was to her would bring anyone with a heart to tears. Some of her sister’s earliest memories were of baby Alexa in a crib hanging out for a week in the summer, or one of a 4 year old girl who wanted to get married there when she grew up. That little four year old’s dream happened to come true at the beginning of July! This story is a little different from most weddings you have ever been to. In fact, it was different from any wedding we have been to and Lisa and I have been to almost 200 weddings. The night before they were to wed all 13 guests gathered for an intimate dinner, a quick rehearsal lakeside, then headed to bed at a decent hour. It was going to be an EARLY morning…

We woke up at 3:30am to meet Alexa and Ben when they were getting up to get ready. Alexa started getting ready at 4am. That time is right, 4am, but that is what you do if you want to get married as the sun rises on Packer Lake. They even brought along their little puppy/ring bearer Bumble, who kinda steals the show sometimes. One thing to note is that every picture below is from their wedding day. They saw the sunrise and sunset with their best friends, were wed, went on a couple hikes, ate every meal with family and friends, and even went for a swim in the lake! This next shot is what I first saw when I awoke that morning at Packer Lake.Packer Lake Wedding 007 photoPacker Lake Wedding 009 photoPacker Lake Wedding 015 photoPacker Lake Wedding 016 photoPacker Lake Wedding 011 photoPacker Lake Wedding 012 photoPacker Lake Wedding 017 photoPacker Lake Wedding 018 photoPacker Lake Wedding 021 photoPacker Lake Wedding 022 photoPacker Lake Wedding 023 photoPacker Lake Wedding 024 photoPacker Lake Wedding 001 Photo 7Packer Lake Wedding 027 photoPacker Lake Wedding 001 photo 2Packer Lake Wedding 029 photoPacker Lake Wedding 031 photo

Early mornings are a special time of day. There are only a few people around and the quiet in the air is one of the calmest things I have ever experienced. The only noises are birds chirping as the wind rustles the towering tree limbs. There was one requirement Alexa had for Ben, he had to look away until she was coming down the aisle. He couldn’t peak and see her walking up. Well, you can see how it turned out next, and there was lots of smiles and laughs getting married as the sun rose!Packer Lake Wedding 033 photoPacker Lake Wedding 035 photoPacker Lake Wedding 036 photoPacker Lake Wedding 037 photoPacker Lake Wedding 001 photo 3Packer Lake Wedding 038 photoPacker Lake Wedding 043 photoPacker Lake Wedding 044 photoPacker Lake Wedding 045 photoPacker Lake Wedding 046 photoPacker Lake Wedding 047 photoPacker Lake Wedding 048 photoPacker Lake Wedding 050 photoPacker Lake Wedding 052 photoPacker Lake Wedding 053 photoPacker Lake Wedding 001 Photo 8Packer Lake Wedding 056 photoPacker Lake Wedding 057 photoPacker Lake Wedding 058 photo

After they were married there was one very important task that was very special for Ben and Alexa. We needed to climb the side of a mountain to leave her Mother’s favorite flowers in one of her favorite places overlooking the mountains. I know I told you Packer Lake was special, and that really doesn’t say the half of what this place really means in the hearts of these people. Alexa’s family have been going there for 25 years together. When we were driving up the day before the wedding I told Lisa I want to do something like that with our family. I want to create a special tradition that we do together, no matter what. It doesn’t matter where we are in life, in work, we take the time to stop and do something every year as a family through a tradition we create. Family is what we make through marriage and I have said this a million times but being able to have traditions that are unique to you are just one of the many small things we do to celebrate who we are and why we choose the paths in life and love we choose.Packer Lake Wedding 060 photoPacker Lake Wedding 061 photoPacker Lake Wedding 062 photoPacker Lake Wedding 064 photoPacker Lake Wedding 001 Photo 5Packer Lake Wedding 066 photoPacker Lake Wedding 067 photoPacker Lake Wedding 069 photo

Thank you so much for choosing us to capture your wedding day. Knowing your story and being able to tell just a small part of who you are through photography will forever hold a little place in our hearts. I sit here with a smile on my face because I couldn’t feel more special as I saw you two get married. I hope you had an amazing rest of your stay at Packer Lake!

Wahed and Ashley were married this last weekend at Clos LaChance Winery. It was this perfect spring day where a breeze had come in allowing the temperature to drop for a cool evening ceremony in May. We had such a wonderful time getting to know Ashley’s fun and boisterous father along with the rest of the family and friends celebrating with them at Clos LaChance.  Here is a small post of some of our favorite wedding photos from the day!Clos Lachance Wedding 001photoClos Lachance Wedding 003photoClos Lachance Wedding 004photoClos Lachance Wedding 007photo copyaClos Lachance Wedding 009photoClos Lachance Wedding 010photoaClos Lachance Wedding 011photoaClos Lachance Wedding 019photoClos Lachance Wedding 017photoClos Lachance Wedding 021photoClos Lachance Wedding 023photoClos Lachance Wedding 024photoClos Lachance Wedding 025photoClos Lachance Wedding 026photoClos Lachance Wedding 028photoClos Lachance Wedding 032photoaClos Lachance Wedding 030photoClos Lachance Wedding 034photoClos Lachance Wedding 033photoClos Lachance Wedding 035photoClos Lachance Wedding 036photoClos Lachance Wedding 037photoClos LaChance Wedding 127photoClos Lachance Wedding 042photoaClos Lachance Wedding 044photoaClos Lachance Wedding 046photoaClos Lachance Wedding 047photoClos Lachance Wedding 048photoClos Lachance Wedding 050photoa

We wish you two the best in the start of your marriage. We loved getting to spend the day at Clos LaChance with you both and Zeus too!

Jonas and Vanessa are married! It may have been one of the hottest days of the year, but these two could not have been happier. They were creative and had cocktail hour before the ceremony so everyone was drinking and eating from the start! The sun was able to drop to allow for a perfectly and emotion filled ceremony along with  an amazing celebration! Can not wait to share more from their wedding!

These two are kinda awesome. Lisa knows Justin because he is a fun, outgoing, friendly guy from Sac State. They met when they were both in sorority and fraternities in college. You seriously just fall in love with the guy after meeting him for just 5 mins. What do you think happened to Angela… These two seriously fell head over heels for each other and it really shows. Justin made so many amazing DIY pieces with the help of Angela, friends and family. We can not wait for a full blog of their wedding. We did however need to post up a teaser of great magnitude! It starts just how their day did, family helping setup all the beautiful things these two created!

I really think it is ok for a man to cry when he sees his soon to be wife for the first time on their wedding day. If you didn’t know I shed a tear seeing Lisa come down the aisle and that was the second time I saw her that day. I can say that Angela and Justin’s wedding film is going to be full of a lot of beautiful emotion. This first look was great watching them both hold back tears and just enjoy each other.

These two braved a lot! There was a rattle snake, a tick, bugs and so much love! Nothing could stop these two and Lisa and I could not have been happier to celebrate with them at Jack London State Park. Welcome home from Italy and we can not wait to share more with you two!

We could not be more excited to have a couple teasers of Jonty and Sabrina’s wedding day. This could not have been a more perfect end to May and start of June. They even had the first reception in the beautiful new room at the Old Sugar Mill. More to come on that and everything amazing at their wedding!

Jennifer and Steve met in the dorms at Sac State. It did not take long for them to fall head over heels for each other and become quickly inseparable. They have traveled all over the US with each other, lived in three states together and had so much fun falling in love each and every day. They are actually getting married at Edgewood here in Lake Tahoe this  fall and thought it would also be the perfect setting for their engagement session. It is a place very close to their hearts as they have moved away from California and are left with only sweet dreams and memories of the state they used to call home. If you didn’t know by now I do love South Lake Tahoe, I did choose to live there for almost three years so why wouldn’t Lisa and I be excited to take their photos there? It was the first time they had been back to California together in a while and were really happy to see family and a couple close friends, do a little wedding planning, and capture some memories together. Here is their late spring Tahoe Engagement session!

Justin and Jessie were married this past Memorial Day weekend with their closest family and friends. It was a very sweet and intimate wedding at Hakone Gardens. Jessie’s parents flew out from China for the wedding and were beyond excited to get to see their daughter so happy. We hope you enjoy this small teaser. More to come soon!

Kelly and Brad started their relationship being inseparable. It is not every day you meet someone who you want to talk to for hours endlessly sitting at a park. So often are we rushed in our lives  and something as simple as good conversation and laughter can kickstart an amazing relationship. These two started just that way. Adventures and conversation are two things they love. Kelly took Brad to Disneyland for his first time. Which is an adventure in so many different ways. But parks and walking and being together are probably the one thing these two love to do more than anything. We started their engagement session at a park these two love to frequent. It is a perfect place hidden from the road where you are surrounded by trees. You may run into a couple wild turkeys at most. Who would not want a special place like this to get away together. There was even an amazing nature trail just across the creek. We were going across small creeks and hiking around for their beautiful engagement session. I seriously wish Lisa and I had a secluded getaway that was down the street from our place!

We then went to their other favorite place…Folsom Lake. They both have lived in the area for a while and liked nothing more than enjoying sunset on the lake. Lisa and I both figured that would be easy since it was just down the street from their favorite park. So as the sun was setting we headed over for one of the best sunsets we have seen at Folsom. I still can not believe all of the beautiful pinks and oranges in the sky!

We could not have been happier being allowed to share in the places that Kelly and Brad love together. We can not wait to see you two again in the fall!

These two are adventurous. I really mean wildly adventurous. From jumping out of planes, running marathons, snowboarding or skiing, cycling, riding motorcycles, these two seriously do it all. How can you blame them from falling in love for each other as the enjoy so much of the same. Allison and Jason are very always there for each other. Jason has been injured once or twice throughout the years and Allison was there nursing him back to health. Since Jason is a bit rough on himself, it is no surprise how we was able to get away with faking his leg was sore the day he proposed. They had just finished a bike ride with their friend and his friends daughter and packed up the truck. Jason grabbed Allion’s hand and asked if she would walk with him to stretch out his legs. He brought her out into the middle of the park, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. The elated Allison said yes. Here are some photos of them just enjoying a fun evening together out and about Old Sacramento.

Jason served for over 10 years in the Army. He had the opportunity to serve, protect and do some amazing things for us. One thing he loves is the American flag. We had to make sure to get at least one good picture of the humungous flag flying outside the Delta King!

Motorcycles! This is Jason’s bike; a clean 600 Ninja. The funny thing is that Allison wants him to get a new bike. I mean what an amazing fiancée right? Who would have known the reason behind that is so that she gets this bike. Now that is a wonderful future wife though I will say. Thoughtful, honest, and loves to be with her fiancé as much as possible!
