Ben + Alexa – Farmers Market engagement session!

Ben and Alexa…there are so many sweet things to say! When we first met these two and heard how they fell for each other we asked, where can Lisa and I sign up to be at their wedding! Falling in love at the gym is not an easy thing. Even more so if you think the girl managing the gym is cute. Ben — quiet, calm, cool and collected found sneaky ways to say hello day after day, week after week. It took a little while but he built up the courage to ask out Alexa.

It is funny because I have been thinking about change so much lately. How do we take that first leap into something new. How can we look at change in our lives and be willing to put our hearts and futures on the line and embrace change for the fickle, fun loving beast she is. A new relationship is full of change and new ideas. When you look back at yourself after you have been dating or been married for a couple years, you see that you indeed did change. I have become the man I am today because I was brave enough to walk up to this red headed girl with the biggest smile I had ever seen and ask her for number. I had never done anything like that before. I was afraid and still embraced chance. Years later I still kick and scream at change but it is that same red headed girl that I look back at and know that deep down in my heart that worrisome little boy will always be there. Fear will never leave your side no matter how fast you run from it. You have to understand that you will never stop fear but you can channel it into real change in our lives. It is that moment of embracing fear that we are at our strongest.

Think about that moment when you asked your now fiancée or wife to marry you. Was there a bit of fear at your side. Did you use it as strength and ask that one question that starts more change in your life then you ever imagined? I know I did.

All this being said, Ben and Alexa have grown so much because of each other. For their engagement session we headed to the Sunday Farmer’s Market under the freeway at X st. It was gloomy and that was ok. They just wanted to grab their veggies and a bit of fruit for the week and go about their day. We met up later at their adorable downtown apartment. I have said it before, but a couple’s home is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Seeing who Ben and Alexa were and capturing them in the one place they spend a large part of their lives together makes Lisa and I happy. Ben showed us the bike he made himself out of bamboo and carbon fiber and Alexa introduced to her adorable kitties. We finished our session where these two had their first date, Southside Park. They quickly had us following them around the jungle gym and embracing our inner child. I could not be happier seeing them relive those first moments of them being together and falling in love all over again. Thank you so much Ben and Alexa for inviting us into your lives and giving us a tiny glimpse of who you are.

Allison and Anthony’s solar eclipse engagement session in the park

A little over a week ago we had the pleasure of photographing Allison and Anthony. None of us really realized it until that day, but their engagement was scheduled during the solar eclipse! So we got to play with some cool light, and crazy awesome shadows!

One of Allison and Anthony’s favorite things to do is hang out in McKinley park with their dog Filibuster (aka Phil), and roam the streets of East Sacramento, picking out their dream house. Here’s Phil! Such a cutie, though not too keen on holding still for a photo!

Ok, I’ll admit I love this photo because of Phil’s expression. “I love my family and life is GOOD.”

We stopped by Allison and Anthony’s house for a quick wardrobe change and made sure to take some photos in front.

We went back to McKinley park to get some last photos in the awesome sunset light.

Fun fact: Anthony had read something in a book, how when it was first built, McKinely Park had these two rows of palm trees running through the park diagonally, from one end to the other. It stuck in his mind so much, he even had a dream about taking their engagement photos with the palm trees. So we made sure to do just that! Not all the palm trees are still there anymore, but you can still see them, all in a row.

Allison and Anthony we had so much fun with you two and we’re glad we got to experience the solar eclipse with you! We cannot wait for your wedding next year!

Josh and Nichole’s High Hand Nursery engagement session

As far as engagement session’s go, this definitely has to be one of my fav’s. I’m so thrilled to finally share it with the blog world. 🙂 I asked Josh and Nichole if they had an idea of where they’d like to take photos and Nichole mentioned High Hand in Loomis. We’d never been there before but WOW what a place! From the gorgeous nursery with plants and colors galore to rug shop to the awesome art gallery, it was a photographer’s paradise. Combine that with the adorable Josh and Nichole who are so happy and excited and cute (I could go on!) and you get one amazing afternoon.

The light was SO AMAZING that day. Josh and Nichole soaked it up perfectly.

Doesn’t Josh have the friendliest face?

Could this photo be any more perfect? I think not.

I love this photo! I remember taking it and and just being in awe. Josh and Nichole are so awesome. We cannot wait for their wedding coming up in just a few short weeks! Its going to be a blast!

WOW! What an AMAZING year 2010 has been! We’ve grown so much and met so many wonderful and unique couples. This year we became “The Goodness” and spent a good part of the year traveling, from all over Sacramento to Ashland, OR, Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz, Dillon Beach, San Francisco, Monterey, and even as far as Boston, Massachusetts and we even had the opportunity to photograph Greg and Melinda at the Eiffel Tower in Paris! We feel so lucky to get to do what we do. I had a great time going through all of our work from over the course of the year and am excited to share our favorites! Enjoy!

We are so excited for 2011, there are a lot of big plans for the business, plenty of awesome couples, and much more fun to come! Happy New Year from Geoff and I at The Goodness to you!

Diego and Christina are engaged! (teaser)

Diego and Christina’s engagement shoot was the perfect cozy and wintery session. We narrowly avoided the rain and got to use some of the Capital Park’s trees beautiful colors. This teaser below is so cute and I’m not sure what kind of tree was behind them, but I want one! I love the little red berries, perfect for this time of year.

Paul and Lesley are engaged! (teaser)

Paul and Lesley are a couple of my favorite people and I am so excited they are engaged! We took their engagement photos last week at Apple Hill (one of my favorite places!) and even though it was pretty muddy, freezing cold, and on the brink of a rainstorm, everything could not have turned out better. I especially love this one below and cannot wait to share the rest.

Dylan and Katey’s Monterey beach wedding

You have never met a sweeter couple than Dylan and Katey. They are both so nice and kind-hearted and we felt honored to capture their beautiful wedding in Monterey, CA. It was a gorgeous day and the weather could not have been more agreeable. With all these frrrrreeeezing temperatures we’ve be having lately, it sure makes me wish I was back there!

I spent the morning with Katey and her sister as they prepared for the day.

Katey looked so beautiful!

Geoff was with Dylan who has an adorable little girl, Elizabeth. I just love this photo of the two of them.

Dylan and Katey’s pre-ceremony portraits are some of my favorites! The sky and water were both so beautiful and blue…

The ceremony was held on the park lawn overlooking Monterey Bay. It was a very sweet service and I love how they incorporated the coming together of their new little family of three!

We really do adore this family! We photographed Meghan’s wedding last year and Just over a week ago we got to see the whole family again for a big group family portrait session. They are ALL the sweetest! I especially love this one of the sisters. I’ve got three sisters of my own, and would not trade those relationships for the world!

I told Katey I wanted to adopt her mommy! She one of the nicest ladies! So sweet.

The intimate and cozy reception was held at Gatherings, just a couple of blocks away.

Elizabeth was so cute, helping her new mommy with her train.

There were some very touching and funny toasts to the happy couple.

There were LOTS of little ones there to party!

This is totally how my sister and I dance too!

Congratulations again, Dylan and Katey! Your wedding day was so full of love and family. We are so grateful to have been a part of it. We hope you have a long and happy marriage and I’m sure it won’t be too long before we see you again!
