Britni and Shane are married! These two have both been making some amazing steps together as a couple. The first step was their meeting at their High School Reunion. Who would of guessed that would be the place you would find the love of your life. They ended up not only hanging out but going back to Britni’s parents property with all of their friends for a big party after the reunion. It just so happens her parents have a “small” 80 acre parcel where it is easy for tons of their friends to just enjoy being together. It took that one night to kick-off these two supporting each other as soul mates. They recently bought a house they are fixing up together, the same week they were married Shane became a fire captain, and their close friends and family gathered for an amazing celebration. You can see that they have a lot of fun loving supportive friends and family once you get to their party. I am not going to lie those firefighters really know how to party! Their wedding was at Arden Hills in Sacramento which was a perfect setting for their party!
What happens when you have a gym-owning, Crossfit guru and a down-to-earth State Capital working beauty, who also just so happens to be Raiderette, fall in love? Well, what happens is the story we will see next. These two were just married at the Sacramento Grand Ballroom. Getting to see Melanie sing Going to the Chapel with her father and mother while driving to the same church they were married in had to be one of the most breathtaking moments of the day. You could see how they were elated to pass the torch to their daughter, to carry on a legacy of love, commitment and happiness. That anyone can make marriage work, but there is a bit of work involved to make the every day perfect. Plus OMG, check out Mike’s face when he saw Melanie for the first time walking down the aisle. I can not believe how perfect their ceremony was along with their gorgeous reception and the Sacramento Grand Ballroom.
Ben and Alexa…there are so many sweet things to say! When we first met these two and heard how they fell for each other we asked, where can Lisa and I sign up to be at their wedding! Falling in love at the gym is not an easy thing. Even more so if you think the girl managing the gym is cute. Ben — quiet, calm, cool and collected found sneaky ways to say hello day after day, week after week. It took a little while but he built up the courage to ask out Alexa.
It is funny because I have been thinking about change so much lately. How do we take that first leap into something new. How can we look at change in our lives and be willing to put our hearts and futures on the line and embrace change for the fickle, fun loving beast she is. A new relationship is full of change and new ideas. When you look back at yourself after you have been dating or been married for a couple years, you see that you indeed did change. I have become the man I am today because I was brave enough to walk up to this red headed girl with the biggest smile I had ever seen and ask her for number. I had never done anything like that before. I was afraid and still embraced chance. Years later I still kick and scream at change but it is that same red headed girl that I look back at and know that deep down in my heart that worrisome little boy will always be there. Fear will never leave your side no matter how fast you run from it. You have to understand that you will never stop fear but you can channel it into real change in our lives. It is that moment of embracing fear that we are at our strongest.
Think about that moment when you asked your now fiancée or wife to marry you. Was there a bit of fear at your side. Did you use it as strength and ask that one question that starts more change in your life then you ever imagined? I know I did.
All this being said, Ben and Alexa have grown so much because of each other. For their engagement session we headed to the Sunday Farmer’s Market under the freeway at X st. It was gloomy and that was ok. They just wanted to grab their veggies and a bit of fruit for the week and go about their day. We met up later at their adorable downtown apartment. I have said it before, but a couple’s home is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Seeing who Ben and Alexa were and capturing them in the one place they spend a large part of their lives together makes Lisa and I happy. Ben showed us the bike he made himself out of bamboo and carbon fiber and Alexa introduced to her adorable kitties. We finished our session where these two had their first date, Southside Park. They quickly had us following them around the jungle gym and embracing our inner child. I could not be happier seeing them relive those first moments of them being together and falling in love all over again. Thank you so much Ben and Alexa for inviting us into your lives and giving us a tiny glimpse of who you are.
These two are adventurous. I really mean wildly adventurous. From jumping out of planes, running marathons, snowboarding or skiing, cycling, riding motorcycles, these two seriously do it all. How can you blame them from falling in love for each other as the enjoy so much of the same. Allison and Jason are very always there for each other. Jason has been injured once or twice throughout the years and Allison was there nursing him back to health. Since Jason is a bit rough on himself, it is no surprise how we was able to get away with faking his leg was sore the day he proposed. They had just finished a bike ride with their friend and his friends daughter and packed up the truck. Jason grabbed Allion’s hand and asked if she would walk with him to stretch out his legs. He brought her out into the middle of the park, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. The elated Allison said yes. Here are some photos of them just enjoying a fun evening together out and about Old Sacramento.
Jason served for over 10 years in the Army. He had the opportunity to serve, protect and do some amazing things for us. One thing he loves is the American flag. We had to make sure to get at least one good picture of the humungous flag flying outside the Delta King!
Motorcycles! This is Jason’s bike; a clean 600 Ninja. The funny thing is that Allison wants him to get a new bike. I mean what an amazing fiancée right? Who would have known the reason behind that is so that she gets this bike. Now that is a wonderful future wife though I will say. Thoughtful, honest, and loves to be with her fiancé as much as possible!
Thanks again sharing for sharing your story with us Allison and Jason. We can not wait to see you two again for an amazing winter wonderland!
Culture and family are things that so many of us value. We hold these things very close to our hearts while some even wear the heart of our culture on our sleeves for everyone to see. In the Cambodian culture, family, community and wedding rituals all come together in one of the most beautiful things Lisa and I have ever had the chance to see. This is actually the third Cambodian wedding we have ever seen and the second one we have had the honor to photograph. Mindy’s cousin Kimnan (a beloved past bride) recommended us and we could not have been happier to see their family again. Showing up that morning to see all of the familiar faces made my morning. We were not only welcomed but embraced as one would do to close family. We were allowed to see something so special that only their close knit family and community was able to see. Having the ability to not only see but to capture these moments are what makes waking up everyday the most amazing thing. Knowing that we are not only capturing their story but seeing the first steps of Chris and Mindy’s family being created.
It was time for the ceremonies to begin. Mindy and Chris had chosen to do three of the traditional Cambodian wedding ceremonies. The first is the introductions and offerings. What is so beautiful about their ceremony is the community comes to share in their entire ceremony, to laugh, to smile and to have fun together!
Chris’ parents were really enjoying themselves as this was their first time ever seeing, and being a part of a Cambodian wedding ceremony.
After this ceremony it was time to get changed for their hair cutting ceremony. Thank goodness no real hair was cut, it was only done symbolically today. The hair cutting is to represent the couple starting anew together like a fresh clean cut!
After the haircutting ceremony it was time for one more change of clothes. This time they were preparing for their pairing ceremony. This is where family and friends tie their wrists and provide blessings to them.
If you don’t catch it, below on the right is Mindy helping clean up! She really did have the biggest smile as everyone from her family came together to help.
Then it was time for their Western ceremony. It was also time for another change into traditional Western attire. This ceremony was held and Mindy’s brother’s house, which is less than a couple miles from her house. Chris’ father was the officiant for them, as well. You can see again and again that nothing is more important than family to these two. It makes me so happy to know that my own mother moved closer to us and we are so blessed to have Lisa’s family so close so we can all grow together. Sometimes life is so fast that we forget to remember the little things that really create meaning in our lives.
Miny’s parents own this donut shop in Sacramento. So when I saw the box appear I knew I had to get at least one shot!
The final stop of this beautiful day was their banquet reception.
When I turn 93 I want to be like this!
Mindy and Chris we are still overwhelmed by all the joy from your wedding day. Thank you again for letting us be a part of your community for just one day!
Today we are pleased to share what was our very first wedding of 2012! We actually photographed this wedding a few days before we left on our Southeast Asia adventure, but I’m so glad it all worked out and we were able to be a part of it because Nathan and Katie are such a sweet couple with a ton of love for each other. The wedding was simple and sweet, very fitting for this down to earth couple. The ceremony was at the Eastern Orthodox Church and was such a cool experience for us. All of the speaking was through song , in addition to the actual amazing singers. We loved all the tradition and ritual.
After the ceremony, we went to the beautiful State Capitol for some portraits of the happy newlyweds.
After a quick photo session at the Capitol, we met back up with the bridal party in Old Sacramento.
The winter sunset was so lovely.
They held a reception for friends and family at The Firehouse. Nathan’s dad came in from out of town to bake their wedding cake in Nathan’s tiny apartment. Such a sweet contribution to the celebration!
Nathan lookin’ good getting a drink!
Congratulations Nathan and Katie! We loved getting to celebrate with you and capture your intimate wedding day. We wish you many years of happiness together!
If you didn’t already see it, head on over to this post to see all the custom design we created for Eric and Maria’s incredible wedding. We are so excited to finally share it! We’ve been holding off because (drumroll….) it’s being featured in the latest issue of Real Weddings Magazine! We are so happy for them and we know a ton of couples are going to be inspired by their clever ideas. Congratulations!
Eric and Maria are just about the sweetest couple you’ll ever meet. They’ve got it all: they are smart, sweet and kind, good looking, and and so in love. We loved getting to be a part of their engagement and wedding. And what a wedding it was! So unique with tons of personal touches, and lots of fun people. The theme for the wedding, as Maria described it, was an elegant farmer’s market. They both love fresh and local food so why not share that with the people they love best?
We began our day with these two as they both got ready in separate rooms at the Citizen Hotel in downtown Sacramento.
The girls and the guys walked over to Capitol park. It was a beautiful day.
Time for Eric and Maria’s super sweet first look!
So, Maria works for the state Assembly members and got us permission to use the upper balconies of the State capitol! It was gorgeous!
This angle has the Cathedral in the background, where they would marry very soon after!
Then it was time to head over to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament to get these two married! The Cathedral is always such a beautiful place to photograph.
We all hopped in the limo and headed to the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg for the reception!
I loooove the Old Sugar Mill. With all of it’s rustic charm, it’s such a great place for photos!
After some quick portraits, it was party time! The reception that Eric and Maria threw for their guests was phenomenal. They war they carried out their “elegant farmers’ market” theme was great! From the rustic decor, with textured burlap runners, galvanized watering cans and lots of beautiful flowers, to the dinner setup with “food stations” just like booths at a real farmers market.
You can read all about the design we created for this wedding, including the favor tags (above) and seating chart and table names (below) on Eric and Maria’s design post.
I LOVE how they did the food! There were stations for each type of food — the bakery, meat, and produce. The guests were encouraged to mingle as they went from station to station.
In lieu of a cake, there was an impressive array of mini pies, baked by Sugar and Spice.
It’s always fun to sneak back outside for a few night shots.
And our last shot of the day, just might be our favorite…as Eric and Maria were walking back to their reception to continue the celebration, Geoff captured this beautiful image of the happy couple headed off to start their new life as man and wife. 🙂

Get ready for an amazing celebration of some geeky gamer love! Matt and Asia are simply the most perfect couple ever. They met through their church (Matt said he fell for her watching her dance, awww) but they truly bonded over the game of Minecraft. They built a house together in the digital world and have been inseparable ever since, both in the game and in real life. Matt even proposed to Asia up on stage at MineCon with the help of the game’s creators. So it was no surprise that Matt and Asia would plan a Minecraft themed wedding, and wow, did they ever. They worked hard and put together an incredible event, which truly reflected their love for Minecraft, ahem, each other! We felt so lucky to capture such an awesome day, both in photos and with a wedding film (at the end of this post). It was a labor of love with lots of DIY and help from some fellow Minecraft lovers. Matt, Asia and friends created the pixel-trees from cardboard boxes and used them to decorate the structural pillars, genius!
The wedding was held at Beatnik Studios in Downtown Sacramento. With its exposed brick walls echoing scenes from the game, what could have been more perfect?
The amazing giant sculptures, which were used at MineCon, were lent to Matt and Asia from artist Greg Aronowitz.
That’sssss a very niccccccce wedding you’ve got there… It’d be a ssssshame if anything were to happen to it…
There was some artwork from the game to help non-Minecrafters to get a feel for what it’s all about.
This is so cool. If you remember from the proposal, JunkBoy, Mojang’s (the creators of Minecraft) Art Developer designed this lovely graphic for Matt to use to pop the question. Jones Soda seriously hooked it UP for the wedding! They provided plenty of bottles featuring different things from the game.
Matt’s vision for the centerpieces was inspired by the grass blocks from the game.
We designed the couple a photo guestbook with little Minecraft touches.
Asia’s “diamond” necklace.
She’s so beautiful!
I love how Asia and her bridesmaids were all wearing red TOMS! So cute and comfy, too.
These 8-bit neckties could not be any more perfect.
“Steve” was an honorary groomsman.
Despite the fact that Matt and Asia had been hanging around together all morning, getting things ready, they still did a first look and I am SO GLAD. It was such an adorable, sentimental moment.
Matt said, “Aww, you’re the best creeper ever.” Ahhh, geek love… 🙂
Time for get married! The ceremony was full of so much fun and hilarity! You must check out their wedding video to get a taste of it! “Will you take this nerd to be your husband?” was among the words spoken.
Matt and Asia got to toast with the Jones bottles they’d saved from the proposal.
Also try PIE!l What’s not to love?
Seriously, such a FUN day! All who attended had a blast and we all loved learning more about Matt and Asia’s love for each other. Thank you so much to Matt and Asia for choosing us to capture your beautiful day! Please do take a look at the Short Film we created of this wonderful day. Matt and Asia, we love you!

Today we are sharing Marc and Jen’s wedding which we photographed earlier this year. They both are such fun and unique people and it was definitely a treat to be able to work with them. Their wedding was at Arden Hill Resort Club & Spa in Sacramento.
I could have photographed Jen forever! She was so gorgeous.
Geoff hung out with Marc and the guys.
Marc and Jen shared a very emotional first look. Looking at these photos again makes me a little teary. They were so sweet.
It was such a beautiful ceremony. Marc and Jen were so happy to have each other. One of the reasons we love weddings so much is that they are always a reminder of how lucky Geoff and I have each other to love. 🙂
We had a few more minutes for portraits before we headed off to the party!
How flipping adorable is this cake? The splashes of bright yellow everywhere were just perfect.
Just before we left for the night, Jen changed into this adorable party dress, so we stole them away from the party for a few more photos.
Congratulation to Marc and Jen! I told Geoff after this wedding, I love how much we get to really know the couple because of the wedding. Meeting their friends and family, hearing stories about them, and learning even more about their love story. Getting to work with amazing couples like Marc and Jen just another thing we love about our job! Many years of happiness to you both!

Never have you met a funner, more carefree couple than the wonderful Alan and Melissa. We loved every moment we got to spend with them and their wedding day was a blast! They were wed at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Midtown Sacramento which was followed by a reception at one of our favorite places, Catta Verdera Country Club in Lincoln. Take a look at some of our favorite captures from the day!
Whew! All that getting ready is hard work! No worries, Alan…it was worth it. You both looked amazing!
Alan and Melissa got to see each other for the first time that day during their first look, which we did at the ever-lovely Capitol Park.
What a fine-looking couple!
After some couple portraits we headed over to St. Francis. Talk about a beautiful church!
After the church service, we headed over to Catta Verdera, which has SO many beautiful places to take photos.
We had a ton of fun with Alan and Melissa’s friends.
Melissa was a STUNNING bride.
LOVE this one.
Party time! The folks at Catta Verdera put on an amazing event. I loved all of Alan and Melissa’s cute details.
When the happy couple made their grand entrance, they went straight into their sweet first dance.
Seriously, I love these guys. They are so full of personality!
One of my favorite parting shots. I love getting the couple out for one last photo before we leave. It’s fun to get creative! This one is so cute.
Alan and Melissa, you two are awesome people who have come so far together and I know you are going to have such a fun life with each other. Your wedding was a fun and love-filled day and we are so thankful to have been a part of it. Many congratulations and best wishes!
