For so many of us, adventures are a necessary part of our lives. For some of us, an adventure is watching a new movie on the couch with the love of our life, and for others it is a weekend of backpacking 15 miles together hand in hand across mountain tops. These two most certainly enjoy both of these, but I will be honest, if there is a choice, they will always choose hike. So what better thing to do for their engagement session than a little hike? For Jennifer and Tiffany, San Francisco is this perfect getaway for them so we went for a quiet hike at Lands End. They fell in love with the beauty and seclusion that this place has to offer. One moment you are deep in San Francisco and a few steps later you are hidden deep in a forest. I can not wait to celebrate their beautiful wedding this summer! Thank you so much for having me capture your beautiful love story!
I fall in love with each couple we have the opportunity to photograph for a million different reasons. The reason why I first fell in love with Bart and Veronica was not because they are getting married in Santa Cruz and wanted beautiful coast lines in their engagement session at Natural Bridges State Park. I fell in love with knowing that we were on a very similar journey and just starting to learn what it was to be parents. They happened to have a baby boy named Harrison who was born three days before our son Bear, and could not have been more excited about the insanity that was already happening in their life together. I knew that familiar sound of excitement, joy and exhaustion in Veronica’s voice when we first talked about her getting married and understood that Bart, and now Harrison, have made her the happiest girl and now mom in the world. I would have done whatever it took to be able to photograph their wedding, not just because we loved their story and we photographed her amazing friend Elise’s wedding, but because their love shined through on phone calls and emails and brightened my day knowing that their little family of three was so happy to be together. That getting married in Santa Cruz where so many of her family had been married in the past matters to both Bart and Veronica. I will say that finally getting to meet the cute, chubby man that is Harrison was extremely fun. He was quiet, well mannered and not afraid to smile at all. He took to having his photo taken with ease! Since we understood that every parent loves their child with all their heart, but a little bit of time spent with just your fiancé is rewarding and fulfilling for your relationship. Grandma and Grandpa had a fun afternoon with Harrison after a couple photos in Capitola allowing us to run off with Bart and Veronica to Natural Bridges State Park. I had never been before and loved the cliffs overlooking the ocean so close to downtown Santa Cruz. I can see why Veronica’s parents moved out there.
Thank you again for showing us why Santa Cruz is special to you! We can not wait to see you three next month!
Nick and Stacy love a good adventure together. In fact, that is one of the most important things these two do—enjoy time and have an adventure or two with each other. Now, every adventure doesn’t mean running out of town every moment they can. It can even mean hanging out at home with their new big puppy and having a glass of wine, to a fun evening out to dinner. These two really thought long and hard about a special location for their engagement session and they came up with a place we love. Their home. Their first home together. Photographing in a couple’s home is such a special place because it is where this where a family lives, it is where so much of a couple’s relationship flourishes. Where you sleep, read, hangout with friends and loved ones, and just be together. Home is where Nick and Stacy will live when they get married next year, it is where they already have so many fun memories together. We love it because these photos will always remind them of the memories together in this house. When Stacy told us she was inviting us into their home to capture their engagement photos Lisa and I could not have been more excited. Here are a few of ours favorites!
Ok so first of all, I own a Vespa partly because of Stephanie. She was our neighbor in the first apartment Lisa and I ever had. We loved her. We would all hangout in our driveway on weekends. She and her best friend (our other neighbor) bought Vespas together, they drank together, and well, she and Autumn were just always together. Many evenings went by where it was the “D” street gang hanging out and having fun. Stephanie was one of our first fans and always loved what Lisa and I were doing. Fast forward today, we all moved away and we are meeting at Stephanie and Carl’s adorable house on the other side of downtown. She met the amazing Carl and had a fun and entertaining first date which included a trip to BonnLair. A favorite spot of Stephanie’s (mine too being an Englishman and all) to hangout. Carl made it past the test of the first date adventures and this love story continues on to today. They both have a love for vehicles with two wheels. Carl’s is a fun Kawasaki and Stephanie’s is an adorable Vespa! We had to take them both for a ride in their neighborhood and visit a couple of their personal spots downtown. First though was their house. Which was cute, well decorated, classic downtown! Not to mention the matching C.S. Lewis book sets! I still have the same one as Stephanie (the one on the left) torn and well used!
Any night that ends with smiles, laughter and a beer is a good night. We seriously could not be more excited for these two. Not just to because seeing Stephanie this happy is amazing and these two are such a great fit for each other. Thank you for sharing a little bit of time with Lisa and I! See you two in November!
