Eric and Maria’s elegant foodie wedding

If you didn’t already see it, head on over to this post to see all the custom design we created for Eric and Maria’s incredible wedding. We are so excited to finally share it! We’ve been holding off because (drumroll….) it’s being featured in the latest issue of Real Weddings Magazine! We are so happy for them and we know a ton of couples are going to be inspired by their clever ideas. Congratulations!

Eric and Maria are just about the sweetest couple you’ll ever meet. They’ve got it all: they are smart, sweet and kind, good looking, and and so in love. We loved getting to be a part of their engagement and wedding. And what a wedding it was! So unique with tons of personal touches, and lots of fun people. The theme for the wedding, as Maria described it, was an elegant farmer’s market. They both love fresh and local food so why not share that with the people they love best?

We began our day with these two as they both got ready in separate rooms at the Citizen Hotel in downtown Sacramento.

The girls and the guys walked over to Capitol park. It was a beautiful day.

Time for Eric and Maria’s super sweet first look!

So, Maria works for the state Assembly members and got us permission to use the upper balconies of the State capitol! It was gorgeous!

This angle has the Cathedral in the background, where they would marry very soon after!

Then it was time to head over to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament to get these two married! The Cathedral is always such a beautiful place to photograph.

We all hopped in the limo and headed to the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg for the reception!

I loooove the Old Sugar Mill. With all of it’s rustic charm, it’s such a great place for photos!

After some quick portraits, it was party time! The reception that Eric and Maria threw for their guests was phenomenal. They war they carried out their “elegant farmers’ market” theme was great! From the rustic decor, with textured burlap runners, galvanized watering cans and lots of beautiful flowers, to the dinner setup with “food stations” just like booths at a real farmers market.

You can read all about the design we created for this wedding, including the favor tags (above) and seating chart and table names (below) on Eric and Maria’s design post.

I LOVE how they did the food! There were stations for each type of food — the bakery, meat, and produce. The guests were encouraged to mingle as they went from station to station.

In lieu of a cake, there was an impressive array of mini pies, baked by Sugar and Spice.

It’s always fun to sneak back outside for a few night shots.

And our last shot of the day, just might be our favorite…as Eric and Maria were walking back to their reception to continue the celebration, Geoff captured this beautiful image of the happy couple headed off to start their new life as man and wife. 🙂

Eric and Maria’s elegant farmer’s market wedding design

We’ve been keeping this one to ourselves for WAY too long! But for good reason because Eric and Maria’s wedding has been featured in print in Real Weddings Magazine! Congratulations to them! Eric and Maria are both food lovers, so for their wedding they decided a theme based around fresh and local food would be the way to go. Maria shared their ideas with me, including loosely picked flowers, watering cans, rustic details, burlap, and food stations. She described the theme as an elegant farmers market. Something natural and organic, with a modern twist. I knew this would be fun to design! After several iterations, I developed a design resembling a vintage seed packet. Eric, Maria and I collaborated and revised it to include the modern elements, such as simple typography, the peach monogram and an orange chevron pattern. I love the outcome of their design, especially the pairing of the bold pattern and kraft paper envelopes. Below is the full suite with invitation, RSVP and information card with coordinating belly band, envelope liner and address label.

The entire suite was wrapped in an orange belly band featuring the peach logo and wedding date.

YES! We made it hard to say no to this invitation!

When it came to the day-of wedding stationery, we wanted to keep the same modern aesthetic to the designs. Printed on kraft paper and adorned with an image of a vintage produce crate label, the seating chart and table name cards (all named after fruits and veggies!) fit in perfectly.

Keeping with the foodie theme, Eric and Maria decided to give out grill seasoning packets as gifts to their guests. Yummy! We designed the name tags and inside cards for the favors.

The “perfect blend”!

Eric and Maria had us design them a guestbook using photos from their UC Davis engagement session. I loved getting to incorporate the design throughout.

They also wanted a matching thank you card. I love the way we incorporated the peach from the invitations in to the design!

Thanks, you’re a peach!

One of the most unique things about working with The Goodness is our special ability to incorporate design and photography to tell our couple’s stories in ways that others can’t. What it all comes down to is creating a wedding album that perfectly captures the couple and their wedding day. Because we had worked with Eric and Maria on design for their wedding, we were able to incorporate that design into their album, for an end product that beautifully portrayed the look and feel of the day to a T. Here is the cover of the guestbook aside the first spread of their wedding album.

Mmmm, love that yummy texture on the leather! Our albums of of the highest quality and made to last generations.

We just loved getting to work so closely with Eric and Maria on everything we created together and getting to know them so well through the process. It only helps us to be that much better at capturing their true selves through photography. Speaking of which, we have their full wedding photography post coming up next with more details about their MAGAZINE feature!

Matt and Asia’s Minecraft wedding

Get ready for an amazing celebration of some geeky gamer love! Matt and Asia are simply the most perfect couple ever. They met through their church (Matt said he fell for her watching her dance, awww) but they truly bonded over the game of Minecraft. They built a house together in the digital world and have been inseparable ever since, both in the game and in real life. Matt even proposed to Asia up on stage at MineCon with the help of the game’s creators. So it was no surprise that Matt and Asia would plan a Minecraft themed wedding, and wow, did they ever. They worked hard and put together an incredible event, which truly reflected their love for Minecraft, ahem, each other! We felt so lucky to capture such an awesome day, both in photos and with a wedding film (at the end of this post). It was a labor of love with lots of DIY and help from some fellow Minecraft lovers. Matt, Asia and friends created the pixel-trees from cardboard boxes and used them to decorate the structural pillars, genius!

The wedding was held at Beatnik Studios in Downtown Sacramento. With its exposed brick walls echoing scenes from the game, what could have been more perfect?

The amazing giant sculptures, which were used at MineCon, were lent to Matt and Asia from artist Greg Aronowitz.

That’sssss a very niccccccce wedding you’ve got there… It’d be a ssssshame if anything were to happen to it…

There was some artwork from the game to help non-Minecrafters to get a feel for what it’s all about.

This is so cool. If you remember from the proposal, JunkBoy, Mojang’s (the creators of Minecraft) Art Developer designed this lovely graphic for Matt to use to pop the question. Jones Soda seriously hooked it UP for the wedding! They provided plenty of bottles featuring different things from the game.

Matt’s vision for the centerpieces was inspired by the grass blocks from the game.

We designed the couple a photo guestbook with little Minecraft touches.

Asia’s “diamond” necklace.

She’s so beautiful!

I love how Asia and her bridesmaids were all wearing red TOMS! So cute and comfy, too.

These 8-bit neckties could not be any more perfect.

“Steve” was an honorary groomsman.

Despite the fact that Matt and Asia had been hanging around together all morning, getting things ready, they still did a first look and I am SO GLAD. It was such an adorable, sentimental moment.

Matt said, “Aww, you’re the best creeper ever.” Ahhh, geek love… 🙂

Ssssssssss…

Time for get married! The ceremony was full of so much fun and hilarity! You must check out their wedding video to get a taste of it! “Will you take this nerd to be your husband?” was among the words spoken.

Matt and Asia got to toast with the Jones bottles they’d saved from the proposal.

Minecraft cake!

Also try PIE!l What’s not to love?

Seriously, such a FUN day! All who attended had a blast and we all loved learning more about Matt and Asia’s love for each other. Thank you so much to Matt and Asia for choosing us to capture your beautiful day! Please do take a look at the Short Film we created of this wonderful day. Matt and Asia, we love you!

Real Weddings Cover Shoot

It’s here! The latest issue of Real Weddings magazine is hitting newsstands now! Why are we so excited? Because earlier this year Real Weddings asked us to photograph their cover shoot! We felt so lucky to be a big part of our favorite Sacramento wedding magazine. What we absolutely love is that Real Weddings’ editor Wendy said she chose us because COLOR was going to be such a big part of the shoot. She knows The Goodness LOVES color! When the big day of the shoot finally came, Geoff and I (and the whole team!) busted our butts for over 13 hours! It was exhausting and exhilarating all at the same time. We had a blast! It was a seriously amazing opportunity and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

WOO HOO!

THANK YOU to all of my friends who came over and helped make these amazing giant tissue flowers! So fun!

Scott and Naomi’s arboretum engagement session

Scott and Naomi met in high school where they both liked each other but were to scared to say anything. Their friends knocked some sense into them and they have been happily together ever since. After 13 years, they are so excited to be getting married and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it. We took their engagement photos at UC Davis, where Naomi spent a lot of time as an undergrad. It was so much fun getting to know them both a little better!

Kevin and Kari’s retro-stylish engagement session

We met up with Kevin and Kari in Capitol Park on a beautiful, warm Sunday evening. From the moment we saw them walking up in their adorably stylish outfits, to the way we saw them make each other laugh right from the very first photo, we knew were in for a fun time. These two are a riot!

I LOVE this picture! I think it epitomizes Kevin and Kari. In love, fun, and constantly laughing with each other.

As you can see, that face came up many times during the session…

The next place we went was the grocery store just a block or two away. You see, Kari’s dad and grandfather, and Kevin’s grandfather are all grocers and it’s a big part of both of their families. The building has this amazing mural which was just perfect for the two of them!

To top the evening off, we went to The Shady Lady, the scene of Kevin and Kari’s first date. We had so much fun shooting in there!

Love this one! Kevin and Kari getting married at the Citizen Hotel later this year and are going to have a little bit of Mad Men infusion. They even did a Mad Men save the date, and they asked us to get a photo of the same pose.

Kevin and Kari are a fun happy couple, but I couldn’t resist a moody photo like this one. So much hotness.

It wouldn’t be a shoot at a bar without a couple of drinks!

Kevin and Kari, we had the best time with you! We are sooo excited for your wedding later this year!

Britni, the survivor

Today, we are happy to share something very special and close to our hearts. We met Britni a few years ago when we were just starting out in our wedding photography business. Britni was the event coordinator at Catta Verdera Country Club and we met when we shot one of our first weddings there. She was absolutely the sweetest, kindest person in the world and was such a champion for us and our photography. It was always such a joy to work with her every time, and her belief in us gave us confidence. We were heartbroken when we learned she had left her position there and even more so when we learned the reason why. Britni had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It was such a shock to learn that this had happened to someone so young and vibrant. She received treatments last year and everything seemed like it was going well and she was on her way to a recovery. Then, just recently she found out that the treatments were unsuccessful and she’d need to undergo chemotherapy and this time, she’d lose her hair.

She emailed Geoff and I to take some portraits with her boyfriend, Nick, and his son, Nicholas before chemo. Also Nick and Nicholas were going shave their heads with Britni and she wanted to get an after picture too. Of course we were so happy to do this for her! In fact we offered to come and photograph the shaving too (we called it the “Shave Party”!). We met up on a Thursday for the portraits, fittingly at Catta Verdera, where Britni and Nick met. We asked how their week had been and Britni joyously announced that Nick had proposed and they were getting married on Monday! We were so happy for them!

Brinti is such a beauty and manages to stay SO positive all the time!

Nicholas is one adorable ball of energy!

A little ove a week later we went to Britni and Nick’s home for the shave party! Here is our obligatory “before” picture!

Little Nicholas was next.

An then it was Britni’s turn…

When it was time for the last hairs to go, Britni took the reins.

I think she looks even more beautiful.

We also put together a little video of the whole thing!

[vimeo video_id=”40691595″ width=”850″ height=”478″ title=”No” byline=”No” portrait=”No” autoplay=”No” loop=”No” color=”c9ff23″]

Britni, we cannot thank you enough for asking us to capture something so immensely special. Thank you for letting us share your story. Readers, Britni has kept a diary of her journey with cancer at her blog, The Princess and the “C”. Please send all of your thoughts, wishes, and support for a speedy recovery. We love you Britni!

Girlfriend shoot at the Phoenix Hotel

I’m so excited to share something a little fun and different today! Megan, one of our brides who is getting married this June (yay!), contacted me a little while ago about a fun idea she had. She wanted to do photo shoot with her best girlfriends and she had the fantastic idea to go to San Francisco and dress up for some “Sex and the City” inspired photos. I was so down! We had a blast with the girls being fun and fashionable. Megan found this amazing place for the shoot at the Phoenix Hotel. How cool is the “Be Amazing” sign above the bar?!

Here is the lovely Megan herself! So stylish.

After we’d shot around the bar and restaurant, we headed out to the patio, which is SO COLORFUL! I was in heaven!

All of the girls were so much fun to photograph.

Our session would not have been complete without some little black dresses and some shots in the city after dark!

Brian and Julie’s Sacramento engagement session

We are so excited to be a part of Brian and Julie’s wedding! I’ve known Brian for a several years now, we met in my early Apple days. I’m so happy he met Julie and that they are getting married! We met up with Brian and Julie at their house in Midtown and then went to our first stop. Julie was eager to get a photo with the Boulevard Park sign, a very iconic street in midtown. Fun Fact: In early Sacramento days, the Boulevard Park area used to be a race track!

The next place Julie and Brian wanted to go was beautiful Capitol Park where the rose garden was in full bloom. So pretty!

Isn’t Julie the cutest?

The we headed out to the lovely Old Sacramento riverfront.

And we finished things off with an epic sunset shot!
