Kevin and Kari’s retro-stylish engagement session

We met up with Kevin and Kari in Capitol Park on a beautiful, warm Sunday evening. From the moment we saw them walking up in their adorably stylish outfits, to the way we saw them make each other laugh right from the very first photo, we knew were in for a fun time. These two are a riot!

I LOVE this picture! I think it epitomizes Kevin and Kari. In love, fun, and constantly laughing with each other.

As you can see, that face came up many times during the session…

The next place we went was the grocery store just a block or two away. You see, Kari’s dad and grandfather, and Kevin’s grandfather are all grocers and it’s a big part of both of their families. The building has this amazing mural which was just perfect for the two of them!

To top the evening off, we went to The Shady Lady, the scene of Kevin and Kari’s first date. We had so much fun shooting in there!

Love this one! Kevin and Kari getting married at the Citizen Hotel later this year and are going to have a little bit of Mad Men infusion. They even did a Mad Men save the date, and they asked us to get a photo of the same pose.

Kevin and Kari are a fun happy couple, but I couldn’t resist a moody photo like this one. So much hotness.

It wouldn’t be a shoot at a bar without a couple of drinks!

Luis and Lizeth are married! (teaser)

Luis and Lizeth’s Mexican Cinco de Mayo wedding was definitely the most colorful wedding we’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing! This amazing couple put so much work and heart in to creating an amazing celebration for their friends and family. Today I’ve got just a little teaser to share but I can’t wait to share the WHOLE thing, including the awesome save the dates, invitations and programs we designed! More to come soon!

Britni, the survivor

Today, we are happy to share something very special and close to our hearts. We met Britni a few years ago when we were just starting out in our wedding photography business. Britni was the event coordinator at Catta Verdera Country Club and we met when we shot one of our first weddings there. She was absolutely the sweetest, kindest person in the world and was such a champion for us and our photography. It was always such a joy to work with her every time, and her belief in us gave us confidence. We were heartbroken when we learned she had left her position there and even more so when we learned the reason why. Britni had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It was such a shock to learn that this had happened to someone so young and vibrant. She received treatments last year and everything seemed like it was going well and she was on her way to a recovery. Then, just recently she found out that the treatments were unsuccessful and she’d need to undergo chemotherapy and this time, she’d lose her hair.

She emailed Geoff and I to take some portraits with her boyfriend, Nick, and his son, Nicholas before chemo. Also Nick and Nicholas were going shave their heads with Britni and she wanted to get an after picture too. Of course we were so happy to do this for her! In fact we offered to come and photograph the shaving too (we called it the “Shave Party”!). We met up on a Thursday for the portraits, fittingly at Catta Verdera, where Britni and Nick met. We asked how their week had been and Britni joyously announced that Nick had proposed and they were getting married on Monday! We were so happy for them!

Brinti is such a beauty and manages to stay SO positive all the time!

Nicholas is one adorable ball of energy!

A little ove a week later we went to Britni and Nick’s home for the shave party! Here is our obligatory “before” picture!

When it was time for the last hairs to go, Britni took the reins.

I think she looks even more beautiful.

We also put together a little video of the whole thing!

Girlfriend shoot at the Phoenix Hotel

I’m so excited to share something a little fun and different today! Megan, one of our brides who is getting married this June (yay!), contacted me a little while ago about a fun idea she had. She wanted to do photo shoot with her best girlfriends and she had the fantastic idea to go to San Francisco and dress up for some “Sex and the City” inspired photos. I was so down! We had a blast with the girls being fun and fashionable. Megan found this amazing place for the shoot at the Phoenix Hotel. How cool is the “Be Amazing” sign above the bar?!

Here is the lovely Megan herself! So stylish.

After we’d shot around the bar and restaurant, we headed out to the patio, which is SO COLORFUL! I was in heaven!

All of the girls were so much fun to photograph.

Our session would not have been complete without some little black dresses and some shots in the city after dark!

Brian and Julie’s Sacramento engagement session

We are so excited to be a part of Brian and Julie’s wedding! I’ve known Brian for a several years now, we met in my early Apple days. I’m so happy he met Julie and that they are getting married! We met up with Brian and Julie at their house in Midtown and then went to our first stop. Julie was eager to get a photo with the Boulevard Park sign, a very iconic street in midtown. Fun Fact: In early Sacramento days, the Boulevard Park area used to be a race track!

The next place Julie and Brian wanted to go was beautiful Capitol Park where the rose garden was in full bloom. So pretty!

The we headed out to the lovely Old Sacramento riverfront.

And we finished things off with an epic sunset shot!

Greg and Melinda’s Imagery Winery engagement session (with robots!)

Greg and Melinda are one fun and quirky couple! Fun fact: when they came over for our first consultation I KNEW I knew her but neither of us could put our fingers on it. Over the next hour we figured out that we hung out as kids at company picnics together because our dads worked for the same company! Small world! Anywhoo, we took their engagement photos at Imagery Winery, which is SUCH a cool place! Melinda’s mom works there too! The place has this great art theme to it; it even has it’s own art gallery feature the artwork from all of it’s wine bottle labels.

Greg and Melinda were not sure what we would think about their “props” for the next photo…

Are you kidding me!? So cool! And Greg MADE THEM. They were the one little thing that he wanted to be a part of the wedding.

I could not get enough of them! Can’t wait for them to make an appearance at the wedding!

Chris and Brandi’s birthday engagement session at Folsom Lake

That is right folks, there was a birthday involved. Brandi was very excited to schedule her engagement session on her birthday, so we decided to bring her a little cupcake to celebrate! We were so excited to start the afternoon with Chris and Brandi at their favorite place to be at in the summer, Folsom Lake. Even with a year without a lot of rain there was plenty of water at the lake. We started our session in this gorgeous grove of trees.

Seeing these two in this beautiful sunlight was too cute, they could not stop smiling.

We quickly headed over to their favorite spot at Folsom Lake, Doton’s Point. It is where they love to hangout on the beach, go for a swim, and just have fun with friends. When we drove up we saw this beautiful bunch of purple flowers. Brandi kept spotting purple flowers all day, and now there were tons!

Oh Brandi and Chris, the start of your birthday celebration ended with such an amazing sunset. These two left us with smiles across our faces. We all drove away down the same road all giddy with emotion. We could not believe the amazing time we had.

Eric and Camay’s surprise proposal and engagement session

Eric and Camay’s story is a little bit out of the ordinary, but that is why we like it so much. You see, Camay contacted me a little while ago about photographing her wedding later this year. Her fiance, Eric is a Major in the Army and was deployed in Afganistan. The twist was that while they were already planning the wedding with a date and venue booked, Eric had never technically proposed! Unfortunately the ring was not ready before Eric left overseas and therefore, he never got the opportunity to officially pop the question to Camay. Immediately after they officially booked us for photography, and unbeknownst to Camay, Eric emailed me about something special he was planning.

Eric was coming home for a couple weeks and didn’t tell Camay he was coming back a couple days early. He’d organized to have his and Camay’s families and some close friends to gather at the Citizen Hotel room he’d booked. She was going to drop off her bags before “picking up Eric from the airport”. When she arrived, and went to go check out the balcony, she got a huge surprise! There was Eric, surrounded by loved ones, with a big bouquet of roses and a ring in his hand. Eric had us there to photograph the whole thing. It was awesome and so emotional! We also filmed the event and put together a cute video which we are excited to share here!

Aren’t they adorable!? It still makes me all teary. :) We feel so lucky to have been a part of this special moment. On to the photos!

The suite was filled with all the people Eric and Camay love best.

When Camay walked out onto the balcony, she saw Geoff and I first, crouched down with cameras pointed at her. She looked very confused (we’d actually never met in person before, so I’m sure it was strange to see us there) and said “Hi” to us.

THEN she looked to the right and…

CLASSIC.

Lots and lots of happy tears.

Camay jokingly thinks a second before she says YES!

In addition to a champagne toast, Eric’s mom shared some delicious chocolates which is an Armenian tradition for an engagement.

Camay changed and we quickly took some photos of this extremely happy couple.

They were so giddy!

After the proposal, Eric and Camay took off on a romantic, relaxing trip to Monterrey. (jealous!) We did an official engagement session with them upon their return. We met up with them at Ancil Hoffman Park in Sacramento, where Camay used to work, so it had a lot of special meaning.

I can’t believe I had never been to this park before! It is absolutely beautiful!

We even made a furry friend or two.

Eric and Camay, we cannot thank you enough for choosing us to be a part of something so special in your lives. It has been wonderful so far getting to know you both and we are beyond stoked for the wedding!

Neal and Traci are married! (teaser)

Congratulations to Neal and Traci who were married at The Vizcaya Pavillion last weekend! It was a beautiful warm sunny Sunday and Neal and Traci were so relaxed and easygoing, they made the whole day a joy for everyone. They are just the sweetest people you’ll ever meet and we could not have been happier to capture their wedding day!

P.S. They had the BEST wedding cake I’ve had in my LIFE made especially by Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates where Traci works. Seriously, it haunts my dreams with its chocolatey goodness.

Steve and Kimber’s Scrabble vineyard wedding

Steve and Kimber, what a fun couple! When we met with them we knew they were going to be a lot of fun! We loved getting to learn all about them and their love for one of the greatest games of all-time, Scrabble! Their wedding at Wilson Vineyard included the game plus many funny and heartwarming touches.

Kimber’s mom helped her get ready. She took this photo of Kimber’s “bridezilla” face!

Kimber could not be more FAR from a bridezilla! This picture is very telling of her sweet, relaxed nature.

Getting ready for your wedding doesn’t mean you have to stop watching the game!

Steve is HILARIOUS! He kept us entertained all day. :)

Steve and Kimber so awesomely decided to do a first look. What better way to greet your groom than with a booty grab!?

After some photo-taking, it was ceremony time!

We just posted all of the Scrabble-themed design we did for them including these programs! It was great to see them in action!

Kimber and her dad pulled up to the ceremony to make their grand entrance from this awesome car!

Steve and Kimber did an amazing job personalizing their wedding and incorporating their LOVE of Scrabble everywhere they could!

Steve and Kimber took the monogram we created for their invitations and used it to create these wine glass favors for the guests.

Scrabble tiles adorned the tables.

The newlyweds danced their way in for the grand entrance.

I think someone had a cake overload.
